Re: clipboard syncing erratically doesn't work

dear peanut gallery,

i'm now working with a new support supervisor who claims to attend regular meetings with the development team.  the latest from him is that this terribly annoying bug isn't planned to be fixed in Fusion 8 and they have no concrete plans to fix it beyond that.

i'd be very appreciative if others experiencing this issue would let the company know how annoying it is to you in the hopes of their bumping the priority of the bug.

once again, the internal ticket number is 1079086.

please report back here with any new info.

thanks!

marc

Re: Adding physical drive to nested ESXi 5.5 in VMWare Workstation

Hi,

Please add more information like your host OS and your VMware Workstation version.

Re: Syslog source files

Hello

I had a look in the documentation but they don't specify exactly.

I assume that the syslog messages you receive are from the services listed :

esxcli system syslog config logger list

And I can confirm at least for most of them that I receive them on my syslog server.

I don't think there is a choice to specify the severity you want them to be forwarded to your syslog server but I am still looking for it.

Best Regards

CPU microcode level error nested ESXi 6.0

Hello VMware community!  I have built a budget home lab and run vSphere 5.5 / vCenter 2 node cluster.  I am trying to bring up a nested vSphere 6.0 environment for testing purposes and have run into an immediate snag.

My first step was to create a new VM for a 6.0 host.  I checked the "Expose hardware assisted visualization to guest OS" cpu option and began to install the vSphere ESXi 6.0 operating system on the VM.  I was almost immediately faced with the following error information:

~~~~~
VMware ESXi 6.0.0 (VMKernel Release Build 2494585)
The system has found a problem on your machine and cannot continue.
Unsupported microcode level 0x00000000
Please use microcode patch level 0x01000065 or higher with AMD Family 10h B3 processors.
~~~~~

I did some google-foo and it seems like whatever update the OS installation is trying to apply cannot be done from a guest OS..  So it would seem the OS needs to be installed directly on the host before the 6.0 guests will work.  Anyone else been down this road?  Am I close?

Re: Help: VMware Workstation unrecoverable error: (svga) | (debug breakpoint)

Bratos please explain how exactly you did it as i am a newbie at this. I tried really hard and googled for quite some time but wasn't even able to get to the direct x control panel. Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: socket and core clarification

I don't think there would be any performance difference will come in this situation.

Re: Removing memory reservation

It's like you are removing the guarantee that VM memory you dedicatory reserved.

In previous case even when your VM not using this much memory but the memory will always reservered for that VM. Now it will not reservered for this VM.

Re: Auth Source Selection

VMware vSphere 5.1

After this you need to add user to add . since this ad and sso you integrate which is register with vc . now you can see all the domain user and group . once you will go in permission tab .

Re: How to get ESXi information from vCenter via scripts

What exactly do you want for version?  The firmware?  The type (VMXNET, E1000, etc)?

Re: VCAP - DCA550 passed! ... My experience

Congratulation!!! its really helpful for the DCD preparation.

vmkfstools lunreset command impact?

I've got a datastore that 2 ESXi hosts (out of 8) can't mount (unmounted/inaccessible but status is normal).  I need to do a LUN reset from the hosts to clear their SCSI reservations, but am not sure of the impact to the other hosts that are connected and actively using this datastore.  Has anyone run this before?  Does it reset all of the hosts' SCSI reservations, or just the host that this command is being run from?

Here's the KB:

VMware ESXi version 5.5.0

Thanks

Re: how to get a 50% off of one of the vcp exam

Vmware at the time of VMworld will given the discount of certification.

Re: View Load Testing: Ways to script commands to applications?

Thanks for the insight!  You are correct it seems.  In the end, I was able to install WASP to my Powershell and capture the ProcessID of the View desktop connection on launch to send commands.  This works fine for the View Desktop, however View RDSH Apps don't seem to have a chance.  They all share the same ProcessID under the vmware-view.exe process and the send-keys command won't post anything to even one app, let alone if I have multiple open.

Oh well, 50% of the way there isn't so bad.

Re: O que é mais eficiente em um Cluster ESXi 5.5, maior número de hosts com poder de processamento distribuídos ou menor número de hosts com processamento unificado?

Difficult to understand . can you please post in English .

Expand space available to Linux OS

I cloned a VM from a template.

The template had a single 40GB virtual disk.

The template had a /tmp directory 5GB is size

I went into vsphere client and made the virtual disk 100GB.  There is still only one virtual disk

After provisioning, the /tmp directory is still 5GB in size.

df -h still shows all the original directories at their original size.

What steps should I take to on partition, volume, filesystem, etc. to allow the /tmp directory to be expanded to 50GB?

File system is ext4 and OS is Centos 6

Thanks!

User must disable vMotion???? - VDP 6.0.1 release notes

The most recent VDP release notes (6.0.1) under Documentation issues says that vMotion must be disabled during backup window.  Is this really a requirement?  I could understand disable before doing a restore but not during backup window.  My understanding is VDP should lock vmotion function at the beginning of a backup and re-enable it when complete.  Why would I need to manually disable vMotion during backup window?  Whats the point of DRS if I have to disable vmotion on all VMs and datastores all the time?

User must disable vMotion during backup window and before running restores to new (224181)

During the backup window and before running a restore to a new location, you must disable the vMotion feature at the VM and datastore levels.

Re: O que é mais eficiente em um Cluster ESXi 5.5, maior número de hosts com poder de processamento distribuídos ou menor número de hosts com processamento unificado?

I would like to understand what the best setting for a cluster ESXi.

1 - Use four hosts with a processing power at a very high host (4 processors with 10 core and memory 1TB).

2 - Use 8 hosts, with less processing power (2 processor with 10 core and memory 500GB).

Whereas the amount of network interfaces models identical hosts both scenario, however, the scenario 2 would therefore a higher number of interfaces due to the greater number of hosts.
