I have experienced strange problems due to VM cloning, so I always shut down the VM first, then go to *.vmx file and check UUID.location and UUID.bios, Can you make sure both parameters are different for these two Linux servers. If they are the same, I suggest you edit them and save the vmx file, then restart the Linux and see if it solves your problem. FYI, if you make similar change to Windows virtual machine, you would need another CD-Key because Windows now consider this clone to be another computer.

Re: Vcenter Server fails Nexpose security scan due to LDAP anonymous directory access
I'm experiencing the same issue when scanned by nexpose. I had vCenter 5.1 originally, then I did an upgrade to 5.5U2b. Now I'm getting this when scanned.
There are fixes for 5.1, but nothing for 5.5.
Opening a case for this issue.
Re: vmkernel log filled with fcoe errors
I just found this which sounds pretty interesting: Zenfolio | Michael Davis | Broadcom BCM57810 FCoE and ESXi
Re: Removing memory reservation
Memory reservation is guarantee for access to physical memory for the virtual machine but remember every VM has swap file size is defined (configured memory-memory reservation).
when it comes to VM memory reservation settings, I recommended to power off VM to change memory reservation settings,
Every powered on Virtual Machine on the ESxi host will have a.vswp file (swap file ) associated with it. This .vswp file will stored in the Virtual Machine directory by default. This .vswp file will be automatically deleted, when virtual machine is powered off. By default, .vSwp file size is same as the configured memory size of the Virtual machine. This .vswp file will be used, if the host is actively over-committed and higly utilized.
Re: How to delay triggered actions in VC alarms
Umesh, Thank you for the reply and for sharing the link
The setting mentioned on the link will change the settings for all the Alarms configured on the VC. Can we delay SNMP trap for a specific alarm instead of all the alarms.
Thanks
Re: there are no deployment profiles for the most recent version
hi
these are out of the box apps I imported via the script. I did not modify any blueprints
Re: socket and core clarification
there is no performance impact of setting it one way or another. Because the hypervisor schedules the resources on the back end, it really doesn’t matter what configuration they’re presented to the guest OS in, at least not from a performance perspective.
The reason you used to have the option to select sockets vs. cores was to get around a limitation in the guest OS. For example, Server 2008 will only use up to 4 physical CPUs. By increasing the number of cores per socket, you can raise the number of CPUs the guest OS will allow you to use (since it seems them as cores). The one consideration to keep in mind is that if there isn’t a reason to trick the guest OS using cores, scale VMs using the socket setting. The number of virtual sockets can/will affect vNUMA calculations.
Re: vmkernel log filled with fcoe errors
Interesting timing. I just off the phone with Dell and we came up with exactly the same solution just before you posted that link. I had all the individual steps myself, but didn't have them in exactly the right order (and was a little afraid to delete that .sh startup file even though I was suspecting it was part of the problem)
Just for reference in case that link goes away, here's the commands I used:
esxcli software vib remove -n scsi-bnx2fc
cd /etc/rc.local.d/
rm 99bnx2fc.sh
esxcli fcoe nic disable -n=vmnic0
esxcli fcoe nic disable -n=vmnic1
Re: vSAN Health Plugin HCL Check
I have a similar problem with a different controller / driver which was just recently added (last day or two) to the HCL as compatible with 6.0 (previously only with 5.5). I'm content with manually verifying against the VMware HCL for now.
Re: error requesting machine
ok I guess I needed to put some reservations in. So the tempate got deployed . But in vra, I still see the job as in progress and the vm is already up and powered on.
whats going on?
Re: Horizon 6.1.1 Slowness/Latency Issues Since Upgrading from 5.3.3
Can you upload the agent logs fro one of the affected desktops, a good indication is in the PCoIP server logs, you can search for packet loss.
Teradici state that anything over 0.01% loss will cause the type of symptoms you are seeing. See below:
Does packet loss impact the PCoIP protocol? (15134-739)
Another thing to check is if you have the tools and agent installed the correct way around, it is recommended to install tools first before the agent,
something got to do with tools overwriting the SVGA drivers that the agent installs, if done the wrong way. This can also cause issues...
Are you using the VMxnet 3 adapter and installed all the hotfixes from Microsoft? another thing to rule out i suppose.
Re: vmkernel log filled with fcoe errors
Glad it helped in some way
But just to mention the link above also suggests to:
Probably a good idea to also modify VMware's Non-Critical Patch baseline to exclude the bnx2fc VIB to prevent it's accidental reinstallation.
So on any upgrade/patch installation this might start all over again...
vSphere Client 5.5 Not Updating USB Device List in the "Connect/Disconnect USB device to the Virtual Machine" Tool Button
vSphere Client 5.5.0 Build 1993072
vSphere server 5.5.0 Build 2646482
In a previous version of 5.5 I was consistently able to connect USB drives attached to the vSphere Client PC( Windows 7 ) to virtual machines hosted on my ESXi Servers.
As USB devices (USB drives) were connected to and recognized by the vSphere Client PC they would be added to the list of available devices in the vSphere Client's
"Connect/Disconnect USB device to the Virtual Machine" Tool Button.
With this latest install This does not occur. The only way to get a device to appear in the list is to restart the vSphere Client program.
Restarting the VMWare USB Aritration Service does not help
When the device appears in the list if I try to connect it to the virtual machine I get an error message
"The device " device name " disconnected: the host is currently using the USB device. Close applications that might be accessing the device, then try again."
No application is accessing the device.
The device is USB 2.0 and the port is USB 2.0
Also one the device is in the list the only way I can remove it from the list is to restart the vSphere Client program.
Servers are Dell R730s running VMware-VMvisor-Installer-5.5.0.update02-2068190.x86_64-Dell_Customized-A02
Does anyone have any ideas about what might be the cause of this?
Was this broken somehow in the latest build 1993072 ?
Re: The connection to the remote computer ended- view 6 - Windows 8.1
What are the specs of your connection server, Ram and CPU ?
Can you attach agent, client logs from an affected user, and Broker logs?
Re: Can not install or run Vmware Player / Workstation on Linux with gcc5.1
Exactly, i get an error that vmware is not able to find gcc 5.1.1 allthough this is exactly what is installed on the system.
I am also able to compile other things, like display driver for example.
vm console
Is there anyway to create a script that lists the vm consoles in a hyperlink?

Re: Ways Replicate to two locations
I haven't looked at anything like VDP. We do have the EMC Recoverpoint appliances that can mirror a volume. I would like to avoid mirroring VMware volumes, because it would be another thing to keep up with to know which volumes are mirrored. I would think that other businesses or institutions might mirror their data to two different locations. Our SRM is licensed per VM and not sure if will replicated based on volume how our licensing would change.
vSphere Web Client error after using ls_update_certs.py Script
Hi,
When I'm trying to register vSphere Replication 6.0 on my vCenter 6.0 (embedded deployment), I get the error message described in KB 2112332. As described in this KB, I followed KB 2109074 to update the certificate in MOB but when I click on a VM, I have this error message on the Web Client :
Cannot find service '%s'.
I attached the vsphere_client_virgo.log
Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas?
Thanks.
