Can we configured Differential Disks like hyper-v ?
Re: ESXI 6 Data DeDuplication
Re: Expand space available to Linux OS
Pease take a look at e.g. GParted -- A free application for graphically managing disk device partitions to see whether this meets your needs.

Re: ESXI 6 Data DeDuplication
Ya you can configured but I am pretty sure it will not be there in the hyper-v . since that's also hypvispr which don't have the storage controller forward capability .
Re: what is the procedure to delete vrealize vms from a catalog clone?
Do you want delete VMs from vRealize Automation that was deployed using the clone workflow and want remove them from your endpoint too (for example, delete from vCenter) ? If yes for both, just click the item on vRealize Automation and select the action Destroy.
Re: Linux fdisk "No Free Sectors Available"
Did you rebooted the VM after increase the virtual disk ?
Re: Expand space available to Linux OS
If using LVM, take a look here: VMware KB: Extending a logical volume in a virtual machine running Red Hat or Cent OS
Note: some times, for Linux OS, reboot the virtual machine is need due some bug on fdisk.
Re: raid 1 configuration on esxi 6.00
ESXi itself doesn't provide a RAID setup. In order to use the disks in a RAID set you need to use a supported RAID controller.

Re: ESXI 6 Data DeDuplication
any article how to do this ? still i cannot find.
creating master disk and link other Vms .
Re: VCenter 6 Install
Thanks, but this basically what I followed. I got it now. I installed the client from the SQL DVD and now Vcenter see's the DSN. I am still getting The user group "NT Service\All SERVICES does not have the "log on as a service" user right.
Re: VCenter 6 Install
Some guy at Spiceworks community recommended to add this to GPO without searchiing for the group in AD, see (last post) VMware 6 vCenter install - Spiceworks
Re: ESXI 6 Data DeDuplication
I think what you are expecting is Linked Clones, and that cannot be done with stand alone ESXi host or even vCenter server.
you need View Composer along with vCenter and ESXi hosts to achieve that.
similar functionalities can also be achieved with vCloud Director.
there are some videos explaining Horizon View and associated components on following URL

Re: ESXi 5.1 VMs slowly degrade with disk latency issues until unusable. How do I troubleshoot/resolve?
I have been in a similar situation and the only solution was to move to faster SAS drives, either 10k or 15k and a faster raid controller (although not always necessary) and RAID 10 to get the I/O I needed. In your case the drives are not built for high I/O low latency performance and RAID 5 is certainly not helping things either.
I would look into new drives, perhaps four 600GB SAS in RAID 10. I can't see any solution with the hardware you have, its simply not made for the performance you want/need.
Y'all's thoughts on Windows backup to iscsi / NFS
For years I have the different Window's servers backing up to iscsi targets (via wbadmin). The Iscsi initiator on the Window VM has its own backup drive on the iscsi target (its main drives are all on DAS on the esxi host). It has worked great (and its free). The biggest pain in the ###### is in the rare even of a BMR recovery. You have to use the Iscsi initiator another windows machine to connect the the dead VM's target, share out the drive, create a new VM machine, do the restore, etc. It works but its not simple. Also, the Windows VM target machines seem forgiving if the host that runs the iscsi target is rebooted. They record a few errors about a missing iscsi target and then chug right along as soon as the iscsi target comes up.
It seems like it would be easier to just have esxi have an iscsi or NFS datastore that esxi connects to, then create the different drives on the iscsi datastore. This would eliminate teh need to create iscsi connectors inside each Windows VM and would allow for a much simpler BMR. I've done it with NFS but have never done it with iscsi. What I don't like about NFS is, if the esxi host loses connection with the NFS server, it will not reconnect on its own (I've never tried NFS4).
Obviously backup of the entire VM would be simpler for BMR. Set that aside for a bit.
Questions:
- Will an esxi 6.0 conntion to an iscsi targe, reconnect on its own in teh even of a iscsi target loss?
- Is NFS4 any better about an automatic recconection to iscsi target loss?
- Is it better to have esxi connect to iscsi or the window client?
Thanks!

Re: clipboard syncing erratically doesn't work
Hey Marc,
Thanks for your persistence, I was sure that I had agreed with you on this issue in this thread, but when I read back to what I wrote here... I'm not finding that.
In any case I bump into the exact same issue many times during a day. You can work around it, by using Ctrl+Z and then paste again, but it is quite annoying.
As I currently also still have support, I have also filed a SR and referenced this thread.

Re: Need VCP6-DCV Exam cost details in india
https://mylearn.vmware.com/mgrReg/plan.cfm?plan=64178&ui=www_cert
all you need is there on above URL. Refer it carefully, you will find information like if you are going to be appearing for VMware exam for the first time, what to do?
or if you are already holding valid VCP5-DCV, what to do? etc...
cost of the exam is listed as 225 USD.

Ability to add notes to a VM
In VMWare Fusion there is the ability to add notes to a VM which I find especially useful to record things like passwords and such.
I have been unable to find any such feature.
Re: Ability to add notes to a VM
In VMware Workstation you can add such information in the GUI's "Description" files.

P2V Successful but Hyper V Virtual, not so much.
Hello All;
I just P2V the entire environment over the past week and must say YAY except for 1 pain in the rear end! I have a Windows Server 2012 running Hyper-V. I was able to P2V the entire server and now I'm getting the following error:
"Virtual Machine <Name> could not be started because the hypervisor is not running"
Now after hours of googling, I've tried the following:
- Adding "hypervisor.cpuid.v0 = "FALSE" to the VMX file of the virtual machine host
- bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype auto and restarted with no luck.
Need some insight please to get the 5 Hyper-V virtual servers running.
Thank You
